This week, I want to talk about these old coping mechanisms and why it is so important to understand where they come from and what they were originally for. This could be the root of some of the seemingly unexplainable habits you have, like being defensive or quiet. However, as we grow up, these coping mechanisms can become less helpful and actually damaging to our everyday lives, making us anxious or afraid of the things happening around us. When we’re young, our brains come up with certain mechanisms to help us live according to our surroundings – or to keep our younger selves safe.
